About You

You are a tech savvy accountant with a CPA designation and proficient in various accounting and office software. You are a seasoned communicator with highly developed client management skills. You are a forward thinker, so you find efficiencies and eliminate redundancies, recommending and implementing change to processes and workflow when needed. In addition, you are a big picture individual, a lifelong learner with a knack for accuracy in your work.

About the role

Job Type: Fulltime, Permanent (40 hours per week)

Location: Remote- Work from Home (Head Office is in Calgary)

Salary: $55,0000.00 to $60,000.00

Reports to: Managing Partner

This is a fulltime role and is fully remote. This role is focused on preparing personal and corporate tax filings, full cycle accounting, payroll processing and ensuring exceptional client experience. Other responsibilities include bookkeeping and U.S. tax preparation support (training provided). A high sense of accountability, good judgement and a passion for excellence are some of the hallmarks of this position.

Your Responsibilities

  • Full cycle accounting including day to day bookkeeping
  • Preparing monthly and annual financial statements
  • Account analysis and reconciliations
  • Ensuring accuracy and integrity of client financial statements.
  • Responding to client inquiries, interpreting variances, and summarizing to provide trend analysis and financial recommendations
  • Managing all Canadian accounting, payroll, and bookkeeping functions.
  • Managing and preparing personal and corporate Canadian tax returns
  • Building effective working relationships with client contacts and responding efficiently to their requests.
  • Consistently developing efficiencies in internal accounting procedures
  • Managing month end close work
  • Managing client payables and ensuring timely vendor payments
  • Preparation and filing GST / HST / PST returns
  • Preparation, filing, and reconciliation of T4, T4 Summary, and T5
  • Maintain record keeping of information required for annual tax reporting
  • Other general accounting duties as assigned

Your Skills and Qualifications

Must have

  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Public practice accounting experience 3 years minimum
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) Required
  • Completion of an accounting degree or diploma
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong bookkeeping experience
  • Highly proficient in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
  • Big picture thinker who still sees the details
  • Experience with 3rd party app integrations with QBO
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Payroll management experience
  • Team player, open minded, and always looking for efficiencies
  • Technologically savvy

Nice to have

  • USA tax experience
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop
  • Proficiency in Dext, Hubdoc, WagePoint, Plooto, Sharefile
