D&C Vander Zaag Farms is a family operation in the Shelburne, Melancthon, Collingwood area looking for an Accountant. This is a permanent, hybrid role and the ideal position for someone with accounting experience and enjoys working with a great team of people in a positive, fast paced learning environment. The successful candidate will ideally have a background in agriculture, or a keen interest in learning. This role is an integral part of the farm team and operation.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for full cycle accounting for the farm business, including:

• Monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations

• Monthly financial reporting including income statement and balance sheets

• Month end, quarter end and year end close

• Tracking of capital assets and depreciation

• Analyze financial statements, investigating and correcting inconsistencies

• Assist in year-end audit

• Support Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable with cost allocations

• Daily/weekly/monthly review of transactions in QuickBooks, making necessary adjustments

• Develop and execute procedures and process improvement recommendations, with a focus on best practices

• Assist in government regulatory audits

• Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures

• Assist with other projects and administrative duties as required

Position Requirements:

• Accounting experience required (3+ years)

• Background in agriculture is an asset

• Strong administrative skills

• Computer skills (Microsoft Office)

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills

• Organizational and time management skills

• Ability to work occasional weekend hours as required

• A team player who builds positive working relationships

• Ability to be hands on and in the field if required

• Requires a valid driver's license and clean abstract
