Job Description
As a Staff Accountant at Waste Connections you will be involved with every piece of the accounting cycle. You will support the District Controller and Assistant Controller in daily accounting tasks in addition to monthly reporting and special projects. You will interact with employees from all aspects of the business including Operations, Sales, Dispatch, Customer Service, and Maintenance. Your success within the role is reliant on an ambitious work ethic, excellent communication and the ability to problem solve. We have an opening for a District Accountant at our Windsor District in Vaughan, Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reconcile and resolve issues in disposal, transportation, subcontract, fuel, and invoices, and provide coding to the AP Clerk for processing.
- Reconcile commodity rebate accounts and provide required adjustment for approval/processing.
- Generate Trux Activity and Disposal Reports for Operational and Financial review.
- Assist in the preparation of month end financial statements including journal entries, monthly stats, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement variance analysis.
- Reconcile payroll accounts including the processing of monthly Union Dues for Toronto.
- Complete HST reconciliation to ensure reasonable and completeness.
- Initiate capital asset transfers and disposals as required including preparation of all support documents.
- Implement and maintain required internal controls.
- Provide support and back up for cash receipts entry, accounts payables entry, and if necessary AR collections/entry.
- Ad-hoc reporting including quarterly PTO submission and annual Green House Gas reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Business, Accounting, or Economics (BComm, BMgt).
- 2 years of full cycle accounting experience is beneficial.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skill.
- Highly organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and navigate multiple priorities.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and related accounting business systems.
