As part of the expansion plans in Canada, we are looking for experienced, energetic and passionate ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER for our SHERWAY GARDENS location. This position reports directly to the Store Manager.

As the Assistant Store Manager, you must be an exceptional leader who can motive, inspire, and develop the store team.


In collaboration with the Store Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the financial success of the store; ensuring positive customer experiences; driving profitable top-line sales growth, and coaching store associates to consistently provide customers with an exceptional shopping experience. The Assistant Store Manager understands key business drivers and adjusts the business accordingly.

The Assistant Store Manager must demonstrate a set of competencies/skills that establish them as a leader within the store. Competencies include:

  • Act as a role model for the in-store team. Coach, develop and maximize the success of all associates
  • Help build a team that works well together based on the needs of the store
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with the store team
  • Maximize sales potential by coaching associates’ behaviors on the sales floor and back room
  • Help manage controllable expenses and optimize resources to minimize expenses

Results: Stays focused on performance. The Assistant Manager drives results and assists with ensuring accountability to those results. You must be action oriented and resourceful!

  • Ensure visual and merchandising standards by directing merchandise flow
  • Ensure compliance with the store image, maintenance, and window dressing standards
  • Assist in meeting payroll goals by ensuring appropriate floor coverage and maintaining a selling focus
  • Continuously ensure the correct replenishment of the store
  • Assist in the control and manage stock (both in transit and in the stockroom) and inventories
  • Loss Prevention and Safety

Thought: Demonstrates understanding of the business through a strong customer focus, heightened business insight and financial acumen. Be able to make complex business decisions when the manager is not present by setting priorities and using strong decision making to act quickly.

  • Optimize selling space in order to obtain maximum profitability
  • Assist in the implementation of company strategies by setting expectations and ensuring accountability.
  • Optimize selling space in order to obtain maximum profitability
  • Be familiar with the collection to maximize sales (initial order, entries etc.)
  • Know the profitability of furniture displays in the store in order to maximize sales


Self: Remains flexible and adaptable all while being self-motivated and tenacious. The Assistant Manager is resilient and maintains composure in all situations.

  • Provide and ensure legendary customer experiences consistently
  • Ensure correct execution of administrative tasks in line with business plans
  • Maintain Fox Home brand policies and procedures


The Assistant Store Manager may perform other related duties, with customer service at the forefront, as required by the Company and/or field leadership


What experience should you have?


  • Minimum of 2 years of management level experience in a comparable retailer with an emphasis on home goods or design.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve individual selling goals and metrics
  • Proven ability to drive sales results, able to analyze selling reports, identify business trends and react quickly to the needs of the business
  • Comfort in making decisions and mediating conflict within a team-environment.
  • Ability to address complex issues and allocate time to execute multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to identify/assess top talent and train/develop/retain great people
  • Product awareness and commercial orientation
  • Customer and image-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suit products such as Excel, Word and Outlook

What are the physical requirements?

  • Ability to work a flex schedule (which may include nights, weekend and holiday availability)
  • Ability to bend, lift, open and move product and fixtures up to 50 lbs., as needed
  • Ability to climb step stools and ladders
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods at a time
  • Possess manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to travel to other store locations (if needed) and attend district meetings
  • This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for long periods of time. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers and management
