The Advisor, Compensation & Benefits performs all administrative functions related to administering employee salary and benefits. The role is responsible for complex analysis of workload and administers contracts and work assignments (i.e., new hires, position changes, retirements, terminations); and prepares related communications including drafting confidential correspondence, responding to emails, preparing contracts, retirement packages and other documentation.

The Advisor develops and maintains relationships with involved parties and provides expert advice to managers, supervisors, and employees on a daily basis. This position works cooperatively with the Finance and Payroll Department to ensure compensation and benefit calculation details are compliant with the Collective Agreement, Employment Standards Act, and audit requirements. The Advisor establishes, coordinates, and performs a diverse range of confidential administrative activities for the Human Resources Department. Considerable judgement is exercised in handling assignments and benefits.

Qualifications

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field (including courses in benefit administration).

Four (4) or more years of compensation and benefits administration experience.

CPHR designation is preferred.

Advanced proficiency with standard office systems and applications, including advance working knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), ERP or other complex databases.

Strong analytical aptitude with the ability to identify the root cause of an issue, determine a solution and independently apply a resolution.

Demonstrated experience in working with large data sets and relational databases (ERP).

Proven ability to be flexible, manage tight deadlines, stress, and the ability to multi-task.

Attention to detail including proven ability to provide highly accurate data entry.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and to provide service to employees and applicants in a professional, respectful, positive, and courteous manner.

Proven ability to handle confidential information and make sound decisions.

Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships in a team environment at all times.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently, taking initiative and overcoming obstacles.
