Clinical Engineering is looking for Biomedical Technologists to support the Alberta Kidney Care program. We have a position available supporting the Hemodialysis Program at many locations across Central, Edmonton and Northern Alberta. This position is part of a highly specialized team of Biomedical Technologists. Specific training will be provided on the support of a variety of Dialysis machines and other supporting medical equipment. As a team member of the Clinical Engineering Edmonton, the Biomedical Technologist II is responsible for the management of medical technology. The technologist requires a comprehensive knowledge of clinical practices, procedures, and types of equipment and must be well versed in the details of anatomy and physiology. The technologist is responsible for customer support, patient and staff education, performance assurance testing, and maintenance and repair of complex medical, biomedical, and electronic devices or systems. These responsibilities must all be completed according to CSA, manufacturers, department, and accreditation standards. Responsibilities also include prioritization, scheduling, managing assigned workload, and other related duties as required. Regular travel outside the city is required and may require multiple night layovers. Occasional travel out of the province or country will be required for equipment support training.
As a Biomedical Equipment Technologist (BMET) II, you will provide assurance testing, maintenance and repair of complex medical, biomedical and electronic devices or systems.
Completion of a two year diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited Institute of Technology. Active or eligible for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
Additional Required Qualifications:Will also consider candidates with an equivalent technologist education diploma or engineering degree.
Preferred Qualifications:Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET) with the Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists and Technicians is a definite asset. Minimum two years of experience in medical equipment technology. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems down to the individual component level. Qualified training on Fresenius 5008, Baxter AK98 dialysis machines, and Baxter WRO300/H. Familiarity with hemodialysis therapy and chronic kidney disease treatment.
