Our Bridges & Structures (Maintenance Delivery) team is looking for a Bridges & Structures Specialist (Projects) who will manage the delivery of bridges and structures heavy-rail design and construction projects.
What will I be doing?
- Developing bridges and structures projects encompassing design, construction, project scope, schedule, quality and budget objectives while integrating requirements associated with corporate standards, guidelines, policies and procedures, with minimal impact on operations and customer service.
- Developing tender specifications and requirements; evaluating submissions and recommending contract awards for management approval.
- Creating requirements for and reviewing consultant studies together with design proposals, making implementation recommendations.
- Identifying any risks (current or potential) to successful project completion and creating plans to mitigate or avoid barriers/issues; managing unforeseen issues taking measured corrective actions to meet budget and schedule requirements.
- Overseeing contractor work and performance to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance; instituting measures and controls to ensure full contractor compliance with agreement terms and conditions governing the delivery of services.
- Overseeing capital and operating budgets and expenditures allocated to maintenance and/or rehabilitation programs/projects to ensure appropriate cost control and proactively managing variances.
- Planning and managing State-of-Good-Repair (SOGR) capital projects that meet or exceed safety, cost, schedule, asset management and quality objectives.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience planning, monitoring and project managing railway corridor engineering structural rehabilitation services.
- Knowledgeable in and able to deploy project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls and monitoring, review and reporting on overall progress and performance.
- A valid G driver’s license is required to travel to various site locations, meetings, etc. (approximately 20%). Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record.
- Ability to obtain CROR (Canadian Operating Rules) Qualification.
- Ability to obtain Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) qualification and other role related certificates.
Working Conditions:
- Works a standard 36.25 work week with a requirement to be available outside of regular office hours to maintain business relationships and address worksite issues.
- Frequent exposure to all types of weather conditions and risks (e.g. uneven ground, operating equipment) when visiting work/construction sites.
