We have an exciting opportunity to join the Engineering department at the City of Burnaby! Reporting to the Deputy General Manager of Engineering, the Director, Engineering Projects is responsible for managing, planning, directing and reviewing the operations of the City’s capital construction program.
Further responsibilities include leading and directing the work of professional and technical staff to ensure that budgeted resources are allocated to key programs, projects and initiatives; representing the department at grievance hearings, arbitrations and labour management meetings, directing and participating on major and/or complex projects; developing, recommending new and/or revising work methods, preparing reports to senior management team and Council with information on capital program status, justifications, variance reporting and matters related to work. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, a Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng) and a minimum of 15 years of technical experience at the supervisory level, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The role requires thorough knowledge of municipal engineering operations, rules, regulations and policies governing the work; Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD), Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC), Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines and standards. The ideal candidate will have the ability to hire, train, supervise, assign, and review the work of the team; establish priorities and set goals and objectives; prepare complex construction contracts; arbitrate contract dispute resolutions; prepare and manage budgets. The role also requires skill in the use of office applications such as MS Office Suite, enterprise systems (i.e. SAP, Hansen, EnerGov etc.) and Project Management software. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
