In December 2018, VIA Rail announced that Siemens Canada had won the contract to build 32 new trainsets to replace the VIA Rail fleet operating in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor. In addition to replacing our aging fleet, VIA Rail will also be investing in the construction of two new maintenance facilities to support the new fleet. We have many projects ongoing and to come in order to reach our 2025 Vision, which is “To be a smarter way to move people”.
Summary:
The intern or recent graduate is assigned to support the Maintenance Facility Upgrade team at the Montreal Maintenance Center. The successful candidate will provide technical engineering support to procure industrial equipment, support the design and construction of a new maintenance facility and support infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists the project delivery team to develop, review, and manage a wide array of technical document including engineering and architectural drawings, specification, request for information, and project management plans.
- Assists the project delivery team to manage project related tasks, scope development, cost and financial forecast, scheduling, risk management, attend meetings, and stakeholder coordination.
- Assures completeness of all drawings, project documentation, engineering records, prints, and tasks of assigned projects.
- Participate in the procurement process to include developing specifications and reviewing bids.
- Participate in the construction activities to include attending construction meetings, review design submittals, site visits, and conducting site observation reports.
- Prepare engineering analysis, progress repots, various internal documentation, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Maintains high standard professionalism in attitudes and communication with stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings between the project team, contractor, and various stakeholders.
- Record and disseminate meeting minutes, project notes, and reports.
- Other tasks as assigned including general office administrative duties.
Requirements
- An architecture, building science, engineering, or engineering technology degree (or working towards degree)
- Highly proficient using MS Office Suite
- Good knowledge with CAD and Construction drawings
- Ability to gather and analyze data with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent communications skills and able to work in a dynamic team environment
- Autonomous and have a excellent sense of organization
- Knowledge of project management methodologies (an asset)
- Knowledge in building systems and industry standards (an asset)
- Bilingualism - French and English
- Occasional travel to Toronto may be required
