Your Opportunity:

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is responsible for providing direct care to medical and cardiology patients on Unit 71 by way of assisting patients in their activities of daily living. You will ensure both the comfort and safety of the patient and provide indirect services to support the overall provision of care. You will work within a CoAct model of care and work in collaboration with the care hub team in your assigned area. You will work under the supervision of the RN, LPN or other licensed healthcare profession and will be expected to maintain a high standard of quality care, participate in quality improvement activities, and integrate the principles of patient and family centered care in your practice. You will be expected to demonstrate: flexibility and reliability; be self-directed; show accountability in own practice; initiative; problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships; time management and prioritization skills; and promote and foster a positive team environment following the AHS Code of Conduct and Values.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart & Stroke. Minimum 1 year experience as a Health Care Aide in an acute medical nursing unit within the last 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

A demonstrated ability to work with seniors/patients with reactive behaviors and cognitively impaired patients. Familiarity with CoAct.
