Summary:
Under the direction of the HSE Supervisor, the HSE Advisor will work closely with the department managers and assist with safety related administrative tasks as well as attend team meetings and other meetings as requested, overseeing warehousing, tool cribs and yards both at Syncrude Base Mine and Aurora site. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission the vision and values of Fort McKay Group of Companies LP. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focus:
  • Conducting Field Tours, Worker Observations and Work Site Safety Inspections
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Complete incident causation analysis, develop, implement and follow up on corrective actions
  • Attend toolbox meetings, pre-job planning/kick offs, monthly safety meetings, weekly client and HSE team meetings
  • Create develop and support tool box talks and safety meetings
  • Review procedures, accept Standards and ensure they are compliant with current OHS & client standards
  • Participate in field Audits and inspections.
  • Quality check, count and file operations documentation then update site-based statistics
  • Take lead in creating and reviewing Job Safety Analysis and perform updates as conditions and processes change
  • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, booking training, and data entry.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Participate with, and contribute to, ongoing procedural, policy and other documentation development and updates as required.
  • Promote an organizational culture that empowers all personnel to be involved in HSE matters and to pro-actively take action to reduce risk and to protect people and the environment.
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off (Thursday to Wednesday); 11.5 hour shifts.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
  • A valid ACSA (Alberta Construction Safety Association) auditor certificate
  • Valid CSTS & OSSA/ CSO/ BSO training is required.
  • Candidates with an NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation are an asset.
  • Candidates with an OHS certificate/ diploma, or a CRSP/CSP designation are preferable.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • At least 3 years of field industry experience in an Oil and Gas and Mining environment is required.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, writes clearly and informatively.
  • Strong conflict resolutions skills, with the ability to collaborate with other groups to mitigate and solve issues that may affect the contract or the Fort McKay Group of Companies.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
This is a full time position located at Syncrude site, north of Fort McMurray, AB.
