About the Role


At Graham, we recognize that managing Insurance and Risk is a critical function of executing successful construction projects. As a member of the risk management team, reporting to the Director, Risk Management, the Insurance Claims Advisor is responsible to ensure that insurance claims are resolved in an equitable and timely manner in order minimize financial impact of any third-party claims and maximize the recovery of insurance proceeds for any first party claims.


As an Insurance Claims Advisor, you will:


  • Manage the prompt and equitable settlement of construction insurance claims across multiple jurisdictions
  • Evaluate and interpret policy wordings in order to determine coverage applicable to the loss
  • Conduct investigations to determine the cause, scope, and quantum of claims
  • Develop and lead claim recovery strategies
  • Respond to communications and information requests from insurers, brokers, adjusters, legal counsel and other experts involved in the claims resolution process
  • Negotiate appropriate and timely resolutions of claims within the prescribed settlement authority
  • Ensure that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner
  • Consult with and report to the Director, Risk Management and Chief Legal and Risk Officer on large losses and contentious coverage matters.
  • Maintains current and accurate files and documentation for each claim
  • Facilitate quarterly claim status review meetings with internal stakeholders and insurance brokers
  • Provide direction and guidance with respect to claims and application of coverage
  • Assist in the development and implementation of claims management best practices and policies and procedures
  • Stay informed on emerging insurance industry trends, statutory and regulatory changes and court decisions that may impact insurance claims
  • Assist with the compilation and development of claims data to identity trends and develop risk mitigation strategies
