As part of a multidisciplinary team and reporting to the Site Leadership, this Technical MLA position is responsible for customer-focused services and direct front-line support of the Rapid Response Lab, including all associated Clinical Sections. This position is expected to work across all shifts in order to support a range of services and operations. The primary role of this position will revolve around the operation and maintenance of the GeneXpert analyzer. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to: operation/maintenance/troubleshooting of various lab equipment/analyzers, processing/reporting/resulting specimens for urinalysis/β-HCG/serum ketones, collection/preparation/reception of bone marrow biopsy and aspirate specimens as required, venipuncture on adult/pediatric/neonatal patients as required, blood product manipulation/dispense, collection/reception/storage/disposal of specimens, handling/storage/disposal of biological or other hazardous materials according to existing guidelines, identification of process improvement opportunities, participate in training/orientation of new staff/students, reception/storage/distribution of lab supplies (including materials greater than 20lbs) and additional duties as needed. The successful candidate will prioritize tasks and duties based on workload, be able to recognize and assess unusual or abnormal findings and react appropriately, maintain a safe and clean workspace, use PPE appropriately according to established procedures, escalate and document problems and/or non-conforming events as required, and respond to inquiries from clinical and lab staff as appropriate. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of team, exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, adaptable communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly-evolving environment.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:Recent MLA experience in an urban RRL setting. Technical MLA experience in Transfusion Medicine, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Clinical Microscopy and/or Molecular Microbiology. Experience with blood product manipulation, bone marrow biopsies, equipment maintenance, and/or automated instrumentation troubleshooting. Completion of TM Laboratory Assistant Module or equivalent. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Millennium. Personal Leadership and Change Management courses/certificates.
