Are you a Mechanical Engineer looking for a new opportunity to ensure assets remain reliable, in-compliance, and efficient? We have a phenomenal opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer supporting our Upgrading Team in Fort McMurray! The engineer supports the safe and reliable operation of equipment by completing integrity assessments and recommendations to the Cross Functional Team.
Minimum Requirements:
- Five years of engineering experience with fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, boilers, piping systems and heat exchangers
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to build positive relationships with a diverse group of people competing for resources
- Strong technical, decision-making, analytical skills and the ability to think strategically and identify root-causes and critical elements

- A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
Key Accountabilities:
- Improve existing asset strategies by working closely with maintenance, planners, and operations on reliability issues and failure trends
- Provide maintenance execution and operations support by troubleshooting and generating repair scopes of work to address emerging operational equipment issues
- Use risk review approaches, hazard and operability studies, management of change process, and other safety checks to maintain and improve area safety and reliability performance indicators
- Investigate and perform root-cause analysis of failures. Ensure equipment design changes align with the engineering management systems and are evaluated for the impact on equipment reliability; lead the engineering design of minor plant and equipment modifications
- Ensures that the equipment are maintained in a cost-effective manner by preparing non-RIK repair scopes for both on site and off site work
- Stewarding and collaborating with the lead engineer to recommend appropriate action to repair equipment
- Completing fitness for service assessments and provide recommendations on repair, replace or return to service
- Works with reliability team to drive continuous improvement for assets by recommending opportunities for area Reliability Improvement plan. This includes material improvements, equipment design changes, bad actors, input in procedure changes and equipment strategies.
- Support Major Event/Turnarounds by Providing technical oversight of removal/installation of equipment or components, Support Turnaround planning by reviewing plans and schedules , Complete found work repair scopes, Guidance on any deviations required for SOW ,Prompt response to requests for information , Completing fitness for service evaluations and determining whether to repair or return to service
- Supports the sustainment of Maintenance & Reliability Asset Information by: Providing feedback to the reliability engineer on deficiencies for master data ,Updates drawings for the Cross Functional Team (CFT) assets in the document management tool while complying with the management of change (MOC) process for as-found conditions
- Supports planning by providing technical advice on repair plans based on scope of work
Location And Other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
- This position is safety sensitive
- If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
