Position Description
The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking a full-time, permanent Occupational Therapist to work on the Forensic Assessment and Triage Unit (FATU). You will be a member of an inter-professional team that provides care to clients detained under the criminal code and jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). Reporting to the Unit Manager, the successful candidate will be a clinician experienced in providing functional assessments, crisis intervention and psychosocial rehabilitation for clients living with psychiatric illness. The Occupational Therapist will facilitate psycho-educational groups, programming and individual counselling in support of clients’ rehabilitation goals. Your skills include the ability to; make behavioural observations, conduct mental status assessments, assess and address functional mobility issues, demonstrate inter-professional collaboration. You will have sound knowledge of recovery principles and best practices in mental health. You will be responsible for formulating treatment plans, monitoring the clients’ response to therapeutic interventions and evaluating clinical care services. You will liaise with other services in the Complex Care and Recovery program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. In support of eventual community re-integration, you will provide recovery-orientated care and ensure security and safety. You will contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students, facilitate inter-professional learning, and participate in the research activities of the program. This position will be located at 1001 Queen Street West and may require evening and weekend work.
Qualifications
You must be registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). You must possess a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field), combined with three years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness and experience working with the prevention and management of aggressive behaviour. You must also have membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and be a holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance. You also must be eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH. Experience in formal risk management strategies and thorough knowledge of the processes and framework of the provincial forensic system and the ORB are definite assets. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Knowledge and experience in occupational therapy assessments and interventions in a mental health setting and knowledge of recovery principles is required. Experience in developing, facilitating, and evaluating group treatment protocols and experience with program development of evidence-based rehabilitation is an asset. Experience with psychotherapeutic modalities, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance & commitment therapy, is considered an asset. Experience working with clients with concurrent disorders (mental illness diagnosis plus substance use history) is preferred. Experience with community work would be an asset. Knowledge of/and experience in working with a diverse community is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are considered an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.
Salary Range: $34.50 - $46.51 per hour
