SUMMARY OF TASKS

The Production Attendant I at the Saputo Orangeville location is responsible for packaging product as part of a production line according to specifications and guidelines.

Each production line consists of two areas:

  • Wet Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with processed, unpackaged dairy products, and are required to supply the line with the product, placing it into the packaging material, and ensuring product is properly sealed before moving it through to Dry Packaging. Four (4) to seven (7) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.
  • Dry Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with packaged dairy products, and are required to ensure labels and product dates are applied correctly, as well as boxing and palletizing the finished goods for the Warehouse. Two (2) to three (3) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities

  • Attend scheduled shift punctually and ready to fulfill all duties required.
  • Meet daily performance targets stipulated by the Production Supervisors, Production Lead Hand, and/or Line Operator.
  • Participate in job rotation, as required.
  • Assist in setup, changeovers, and tear down of machinery and equipment.
  • Participate in daily mandatory stretching program before start of shift, and as required.
  • Report, immediately, any/all food safety and quality issues, and health and safety concerns/infractions to the Line Operator, Production Lead Hand, and/or Production Supervisor.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Complete daily sanitation duties.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to good hand washing practices to ensure food safety.
  • Comply with all Saputo Orangeville Health and Safety, Food Safety and Quality regulations.
  • Comply with all Saputo Orangeville policies and procedures.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Take on additional duties, as required.

Wet Packaging Responsibilities

  • Ensure line is always properly supplied with materials, including processed product.
  • Complete visual inspection of product before it is placed into packaging material to ensure it meets or exceeds Saputo Orangeville quality standards.
  • Depending on the product, add cellulose or brine to processed product before it is placed into packaging material.
  • Perform frequent quality checks to ensure product meets required specifications (i.e. weight, dimension, spice/seasonings coverage), and complete corresponding paperwork.
  • When spice/seasonings are applied, ensure complete coverage.
  • Ensure appropriate packaging material is applied to the line (i.e. containers, plastic casings) and easily accessible when required to replenish.
  • Add processed product to the appropriate packaging material.
  • Ensure seals are cleaned and free from product before being sealed.
  • Ensure packaged product is well sealed before it is sent to Dry Packaging, confirming there is no air or brine leaking or product dispensing.

Dry Packaging Responsibilities

  • Ensure line is always properly supplied with materials, including boxes, labels, and empty skids.
  • Apply appropriate labels to the line.
  • Program dating equipment with proper format.
  • Ensure packaged product has the clear labelling and dating.
  • Complete and record Metal Detection check every hour.
  • Make, label, and fill boxes with final product.
  • Package 16-64 pieces of product per minute.
  • Make 4-8 boxes per minute.
  • Complete visual inspection of product, including confirming it is well sealed, prior to sealing boxes.
  • Move sealed boxes from the line onto skid/pallet.
  • Palletize boxes according to requirements, and ensure accurate counts and identification.

  • Food/dairy/manufacturing experience, an asset
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • Team player, but can also work independently

  • Able to work overtime, statutory holidays, and weekends, as required
