About the role


The work of Plasma Nurses is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be responsible for administrative support to all program activities and you will provide support in accordance with all regulations, standards and good manufacturing practice.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Provides support to donor eligibility enquiries and/or donation criteria escalations
  • Monitors safety and status of donor during collection by assessing donor incidents and providing care, provides post-donation care, and instructions as required
  • Ensures donor incidents are documented/reported and donor follow-up is completed
  • Conducts confidential donor screening, obtains donor consent, completes donor registration, and responds to inquiries and concerns regarding plasma donation/process, etc.
  • Performs venepuncture according to established standards
  • Ensures completeness of information in IT system for products and prepares product samples for shipment to testing facility
  • Follows established procedures to centrifuge product samples, prepare products for freezing and monitor temperatures
  • Promotes a positive experience through exceptional customer service throughout collection process and takes initiative to ensure that donors are engaged and that their needs are met
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of an effective non-conformance program, which includes data collection and analysis, root cause analysis, monitoring of its effectiveness, and recommending and implementing process improvement activities as needed


Required Skills:

  • A licensed Registered Nurse, able to practice in the province of employment
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment
  • Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with French considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team building and ability to collaborate in a multi-team setting
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory
  • Computer literacy required
