Cocoon® Platform | Cell Therapy Manufacturing | Lonza

As an Electrical Engineer Intern, you will be responsible for driving engineering activities to develop new features, improvements and applications for Cocoon® platform. This will involve work in the area of integrated systems, electronics and firmware design, prototyping, testing and transfer to manufacturing. You will leverage your knowledge of electrical schematics, control system design, communication interfaces (USB, UART, SPI, I2C), and root cause analysis in our state of the art facility. You are expected to bring new ideas and innovations to the table while working within the Quality Management System.

This is an 12-16-month long internship assignment and will be based in our Kingston, ON location.

The ideal candidate will have a palpable energy level, agility to meet changing priorities, drive to exceed goals, attention to detail and positive attitude.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver on Sustaining Engineering projects
  • Support engineering team with tasks such as component drawings, specifications, design review and analysis
  • Independently design and execute experiments including data analysis, communication of results and proposals for next steps
  • Comply with Quality Management System requirements and documentation
  • Perform background research to further development of existing products
  • Provide root cause analysis, troubleshooting and solutions for challenges encountered in the manufacture, and customer use of our products
  • Writing and revising technical documents including test protocols and reports, bills of materials, work instructions and quality forms
  • Execute identified corrective actions to improve product and manufacturing process, typically following an Engineering Change process
  • Work within a self-directed team environment
  • Present results to direct supervisor and members of the team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Key Requirements:

  • Working toward an Engineering degree in the Electrical, Systems or Mechatronics field
  • Ability to take ownership in setting strategic workflow to achieve goals
  • Technical report writing
  • Able to perform troubleshooting and hands-on work with PCBs and electromechanical systems
  • Experience with integrated systems and embedded systems
  • Working knowledge of common electrical protocols such as USB, I2C, SPI, RS-232, CAN, etc.
  • Knowledge of motor control and temperature sensing/control design would be beneficial
  • Strong innovation and creativity in design solutions
  • Comfort with measurement tools including oscilloscopes
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Independent work skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a team setting
