Position Description


As a member of the informatics team, the Software Engineer/Developer will work with PI and bioinformaticians/data scientists/research associates to implement neuroimaging (MRI, DTI, MEG) machine learning/deep learning data mining algorithms and pipelines by designing both user- (clinicians, RAs,e tc) and/or automation-friendly software packages and applications.

What You'll Get to Do:

  • Working with bioinformaticians and data scientists, design applications to implement machine learning/deep learning algorithms and pipelines developed by the bioinformaticians and data scientists for neuroimaging data mining, responsible for prototyping, developing, testing and deploying.
  • Design user friendly applications in a clinical setting.
  • Working with bioinformaticians and data scientists, design command-line applications easy for script integration and automation for researchers.
  • Deploy appropriate solutions to optimize pipeline and application efficiency according to the computation architecture.
  • Work closely with other senior lab members to identify the requirement for software/application designing tasks.
  • Work closely with bioinformaticians and data scientists, perform regular functionality updates to the software packages and applications.
  • Perform code review, maintenance and documentation.
  • Create system architecture, documentation and user manual of the software packages and applications.
  • Ensure and provide assistance to installation, configuration, and maintenance of development environments running on the platforms and on-premise computing platforms.
  • Present designed applications and software packages to colleagues and clients.

What You’ll Need:

  • M.Sc degree in computer science, engineering, software design, bioinformatics, computational biology or related disciplines preferred
  • Familiar with Unix/Linux environment
  • Strong scripting programming skills (at least one): C++, Python, Perl, Shell scripting
  • Strong skills in web application/front end development framework (at least one): Shiny (R), Django (Python), Angular (Javascript)
  • Source control: Git
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong communication and presentation ability

Preference given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience with iOS and/or Android application development
  • Experience with high-performance computing and cloud computing
  • Experience with R and matlab statistical language
  • Statistics knowledge
  • Machine learning and deep learning knowledge
  • Experience working with MEG imaging and functional connectivity
  • Neuroscience knowledge
