The Role: Specialty Programmer (8 Week Contract)
Trellis Society is seeking Specialty Programmers to join our team this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This 8-week contract position will involve working 35 hours per week and providing quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Developing and planning fun and engaging and developmentally appropriate “Specialty Programming” for summer day camps groups
  • Implementing and running specialty programming as a “special guest presenter” in summer day camps groups
  • Ensuring program safety by ensuring the supplies and program spaces adhere to safety standards and addressing and reporting any unsafe conditions
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, youth, and families in the program
  • Following health and safety and sanitization standards set by AHS
  • Adhering to Childcare Regulations as described by the Government of Alberta
  • Attending and engaging in program specific meetings
  • Providing staffing support for summer day camps programming
  • Engaging in and modelling respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with children, youth, community, and staff team
  • Maintaining client files, updating communication logs
  • Facilitating support in a way that incorporates Social and Emotional Learning, Developmental Relationships, Natural Supports Framework, and Trauma Informed Practice

What You’ll Bring to The Role:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and meet the Canadian Summer Job requirements
  • A degree or diploma or currently enrolled, or have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children, youth and families
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn database systems
  • Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid and Level C CPR training
  • Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Experience or in-depth understanding of Harm reduction and Trauma Informed Practice is considered an asset

Reporting Relationship:
This position directly reports to a Trellis Program Manager
