PROJECT ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

This position will support the Water3 Innovation to successfully convert the world-leading, innovative technologies developed in the research laboratory at bench scale to full-scale facilities, and will present many opportunities on a variety of tasks related to the development and implementation of environmental treatment facilities for the Water3 Innovation. The successful candidate will take a lead role on all aspects of business development, project management and project delivery in a dynamic work environment, and will be involved in the full life-cycle of projects including preparing proposals and work plans, coordinating and executing projects, managing budgets, client support and communication, data analysis and reviews, and reporting. You will lead with a forward-thinking approach that promotes a team environment to improve overall group performance and client service.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Engineer’s duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide a leadership role in the preparation of designs, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents, as well as participating in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, contract administration, and inspections
  • Advance projects through the concept, design, and construction phases; managing existing clients; and developing new clients
  • Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility and constructability
  • Develop detailed project execution plan, update, track, and manage progress
  • Plan, report and track schedules and budget, all as part of project financial management
  • Deliver projects on budget and within identified schedules
  • Properly document and manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs, prepare change orders and follow up with clients
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques and adjust project activities accordingly
  • Report and escalate matters that require management attention or intervention on a timely basis if needed to ensure projects are not in jeopardy
  • Acting as the primary contact for all project-related communications
  • Perform risk management practices to minimize project risks
  • Prepare or assist to prepare terms of reference, proposals, tenders, bids, contract documents and reports as required
  • Provide leadership Health and Safety through open and positive communications with all staff
  • Supervise, monitor, and direct consultants and contractors to fulfill their scope of work

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institute, plus 2 years of experience in project management or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with APEGA.
  • Prior experience with the management of construction or installation projects, budgeting, and consultants, contractors, or vendors is an asset.
  • A background in business skills, management, budgeting, and analysis is an asset. PMP designation is a plus.
  • An excellent communicator and comfortable managing multiple tasks and working under pressure.
  • Must be a team player and have a problem-solving aptitude.
  • Highly motivated and interested in career advancement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Solid technical background, with understanding or hands-on experience in troubleshooting on the construction site
  • Excellent client-facing and internal interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to be diplomatic and persuasive to internal and external stakeholders
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project or other project management tools
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage equipment fabrication projects and interpret drawings and plans
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to negotiate with consultants and contractors and to resolve conflicts between parties involved in project implementation.
  • Knowledge of general safety and safe work practices.
  • Creative problem-solver who brings innovative solutions to new and recurring problems
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Working knowledge of procurement practices including contract tenders, specification preparation, bidding, etc. is an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google apps, and online meeting tools.

Salary: From $70,000.00 per year
