A temporary part time (0.8) Indigenous Support/Transition
Coach/Numeracy Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North)
effective September 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. The assignment will be at
Dr. Kearney Middle School.

Dr.
Kearney Middle School is a vibrant middle school offering classes in
grades 7-9. We enroll a diverse student population of 600, 20% of whom
are of First Nations descent. We
have an active Parent Advisory Committee and a supportive parent
community. Some themes that characterize our school are a commitment to
student centered learning and a focus on collaborative planning. Some
exciting dimensions of the school are our Leadership, Peer Helping,
At-Risk Students and Reading Intervention programs. Our school also

Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certificate (or eligible for)
Three years related experience working with Indigenous communities and schools around the academics and social emotional well being of Indigenous students
Providing tutorial support in 1:1 setting and small group and in classroom - emphasis on math and literacy
Demonstrated successful experience with numeracy instruction
Discuss with other teachers preferential student's scheduling (fewer teachers, teacher/class matching, peer-pairing, etc.)
Regularly monitor student attendance and learning programs
Identity and monitor student’s development through: Response to Intervention (RTI) model and other effective educational strategies such as, Learning Journeys and District Mitigation Plan
Delegate students to the Indigenous Support Team for academic and SEL support
Acknowledging student's successes and growth
All student service must be documented in ASSESS / elnsight
Comprehensive planning for reentry to school for those students who have been withdrawn or suspended. Continuous follow-up of these vulnerable students
Connect and bridge students with community resources and supports
Experience in adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
Ability to work independently and with all Indigenous Support Team
Must possess very strong communication, presentation skills and interpersonal skills
Organize, schedule, create agenda for bi-monthly schools Indigenous team meetings
Liaison with wraparound supports (school, home, community agencies, urban Indigenous organizations and our three local First Nations)
Work collaboratively with the school, parents and First Nations communities to develop strategies that ensure all Indigenous students clearly understand the courses and subsequent grades they must attain to attend the college or training program of their choice
Oral and written fluency in an Indigenous language would be an asset
Valid BC drivers license, local travel will require the use of a personal vehicle
Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry
Other Duties as per assigned by the District Indigenous Principal

Compensation
$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108.576
Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
