DMF Construction Management is a company offering a full range of construction management services in the I.C.I., residential, and commercial sector of the industry in Ontario. We are looking for a motivated and energetic Quantity Surveyor / Cost Estimator to join our team.
The Quantity Surveyor / Cost Estimator will be responsible to estimate construction costs and make sure the project stays within budget. This also includes analyzing and aligning trade budgets with project requirements and communicate project estimate details to management committee and other stakeholders. This role will work closely with internal staff, management committee, and external parties to communicate any project related matters.
Job Responsibilities:
Attend and participate in department or corporate meetings as required
Ability to accurately read and analyze Architectural, Structural, Civil, and
Landscaping Blueprints
Assemble all estimating input including labour, material, equipment and trade
pricing with the support of the team
Prepare and analyze labour needs and breakdowns to assist with budgets and
planning
Review designs to identify areas of improvement and opportunity for cost
efficiencies
Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have been quantified and costed
Track estimated versus actual costs over the life of the project
Prepare tender packages for subcontractors, including instructions to bidders, bid forms, scopes of work, and additional template schedules
Issue tender packages to subcontractors via internal process
Respond to subcontractors tendering questions
Build strong relationships with our trades and suppliers
Contribute to design and preconstruction meetings with owners and consultants
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in either Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction
Management
Professional Accreditation (CIQS, PQS)
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience in the preparation of all classes of estimates from
conceptual to pre-tender estimates for various projects
Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills combined with sound judgement and initiative
Ability to build client and working relationships and work collaboratively with others
Excellent communications skills (both oral and written)
Excellent organizational skills in order to meet tight deadlines
Proficient with Microsoft software (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and
knowledge of Procore an asset
Hold a valid driver’s license
Legally eligible to work in Canada
