As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will be a patient advocate who will effectively communicate and interact with community partners and allied healthcare professionals to ensure safe and proficient patient care and transportation. To fulfill your responsibilities, you will safely operate emergency vehicles, respond to medical and traumatic emergencies and inter-facility transport requests while adhering to professional standards, medical control protocols, standard operating procedures, polices and directives. As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will transport ill or injured patients from scenes of emergency and/or between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation, and assessing emergency scenes and patients. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped.
Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACoP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) issued by Heart and Stroke. Must be able to obtain a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator Licence, or equivalent, and a current five (5) year driver's abstract - within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Must provide proof of certificate of successful completion of Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test by the Lifemark, or an approved equivalent test, prior to receiving an offer of employment - applicable to all applicants, including AHS employees who do not hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic).
