Senior Security Developer

Your role and Your skills:

The Digital Solutions team develops high profile customer facing web applications and mobile apps at Sun Life including mySunLife.ca and Lumino Health.

We seek a Senior Security Developer with an interest in designing, developing, implementing, supporting, and analyzing large-scale tooling and systems while incorporating threat modeling, vulnerability testing, and incident management to support the end-to-end secure software development process. The successful candidate will have strong technical and problem-solving skills and will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be open to sharing and learning new skills.

  • Act as a key technical lead regarding secure software development practices. You will demonstrate 5+ years of current or previous software development experience, and 2+ years of secure coding practices experience.
  • Java development experience is preferred. Otherwise, we will instead also consider Python, C#, or modern JavaScript.
  • You will also demonstrate sound technical experience with vulnerability assessment and security/penetration static scanning tools. While we prefer SonarQube and JFrog Xray, we will instead consider other tools such as Veracode, Sonatype, or Synopsis.
  • Your experience with secure development practices should include: data transactions encoding, database security, session management, authentication and access control. Experience with software security risk assessment, pen testing, and threat modelling is also desired.
  • Perform security architecture reviews of applications in design and implementation phases.
  • Provide technical leadership to team members for software application security.
  • We seek experience with Jenkins software build configuration. Otherwise, we can instead consider other CI/CD tools such as CircleCI, GitLab, or AzureDevOps server.
  • Participate in implementation and deployment of new tools, processes, and best practices in order to improve knowledge sharing and promote security awareness among team members.
  • Review security reports from internal tools and be hands-on in addressing the findings
  • Perform code reviews and provide technical feedback to the team members
  • Coordinate and manage 3rd party security PenTests and audits
  • Prepare security training material and lead training sessions for team members
  • Create and maintain standards and documentation related to security processes, procedures and infrastructure
  • Any experience with DevSecOps or DevOps is an asset. Otherwise, if you are a strong current or previous secure software coder/engineer you can learn DevOps here!
  • Any experience with mobile development (iOS or Android) would be an asset. Otherwise, you will gain experience with a mobile development environment here!
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Teamwork - ability to work collaboratively with others (technical and non-technical)
  • Good organizational and time management skills

Proposed Compensation Statement (to be approved by the Compensation Team):

In addition to the posted base salary range, our variable rewards include a 10% annual bonus target, and a regular DCPP (pension) contribution from Sun Life. Should the strength of your required and preferred skills require a salary above the posted base salary range please apply for consideration.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
