Title: Summer Developer

Salary: $24.00 per hour

Hours: Monday to Thursday - 32 hours per week

Term: 8-Weeks (May 22, 2023 to July 14, 2023 with possibility to extend term)

Job Description

Ursa Creative is looking for a summer jobs candidate to join our team for an 8-week summer term to support the operational and programmatic needs of the company. The summer developer position is a great opportunity to gain practical programming experience, while contributing to projects that service Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples across BC and Canada.

The qualified candidate will be working with a summer designer to complete a project. The project will include discovery, documentation, design, development, testing, and deployment requirements. Once complete, the candidate will have a public project available to add to their portfolio or resume, in addition to the experience they will gain from completing the project. The candidates will be mentored and managed by experienced designers and developers.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Ursa team to develop a web application
  • See the project through to completion in a timely manner
  • Participate in design and code review processes with the Ursa team
  • Maintain active communication with the Ursa team and others about project status, timeline, and details
  • Maintain active communication with the Ursa team and others about desired features, issue tracking, and project status
  • Work as part of an Agile team and participate in scrums and sprints

Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable working in a team-based environment and have interest in design and user experience. Experience with design a plus. Familiarity and/or experience with one or more of the following desired but not required:

  • PHP
  • HTML/CSS
  • JavaScript

Other useful skillsets:

  • Familiarity with the Indigenous community in Victoria, BC, and Canada (highly desired, but not required)
  • Ability to work independently and to learn quickly
  • Passion and keen eye for design
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work on projects alone and within a team
  • Confidence, tact, and skill in dealing with diverse communities: You may be dealing with various stakeholders including Indigenous organizations and people(s)
