INTERMEDIATE TEACHER

West Bay IB World School

Fulltime (1.0 FTE) term position

September 5, 2023 – June 30, 2024

Required Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant for this position must have:
A clear understanding of the characteristics of the intermediate student and the ability to develop a positive learning environment addressing the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group, preferably in an IB PYP classroom

be willing to attend on-going training and professional development for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program;

be willing to collaboratively plan units of inquiry to be taught through a guided inquiry approach.

Demonstrated ability and experience to teach, assess and plan an intermediate program

Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability, commitment and drive to work co-operatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting

Knowledge and experience in working with Special Needs students and support staff with a focus on differentiated instruction in the classroom and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners through a broad array of teaching strategies

Knowledge and experience in adapting learning objectives and strategies to meet the needs of English Language Learners at varying levels

Experience anda clear understanding of social and emotional learning and self-regulation

Knowledge and proven experience in the area of technology (the ability to integrate various technologies into the curriculum, modes of assessment, and its use for student adaptations)

The ability to use formative assessment practices to improve student achievement with emphasis on the BC Curriculum and web-based platforms

Effective classroom management skills that are student centered and focus on relationships and authentic connections

A strong commitment to positive and consistent engagement and communication with parents and other stakeholders
