Transit Safety & Training Supervisor
The Safety & Training Supervisor is primarily responsible for delivering all Transit training programs to ensure best in class training is delivered. The Safety & Training Supervisor is also responsible for supporting the implementation of safety programs and procedures in compliance with both provincial and federal regulations and corporate and client policies
What You Will Be Doing as a Transit Safety & Training Supervisor:
- Provides classroom and in-service instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation in the course of passenger transportation
- Provides monthly or annual ongoing/refresher training in topics relevant to the service and service area and in a timely manner
- Ensures a fully equipped complement of transit operators to provide service according to the contract guidelines
- Establishes relationships with key client agency personnel to identify additional training needs, resources and opportunities
- Provides feedback and follow up for operator performance reviews and identifies individual training needs where necessary
- Ensures all Transit employees are current with general safety programs and practices
- Reviews vehicular, passenger and employee incidents for determination of cause and preventability, identifying potential trends to be addressed in future training efforts as well as ensuring that retraining and appropriate corrective action is issued
- Works with local provincial Worker’s Compensation agencies to ensure all claims are handled promptly and effectively, including coordinating modified and gradual return to work programs for injured employees
- Assists with the development and communication of training policies, procedures and manuals as needed
What You Should Have, as a Transit Safety & Training Supervisor:
- Completion of a degree or college diploma with specialization in Adult Education, Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation in progress is preferred
- Completion of the CUTA Ambassador and Skillform Programs, or equivalent program
- Certified to deliver defensive driver training
- Three (3) years of experience in a safety, training, occupational health & safety role, preferably in the transportation industry
- Must have a BZ driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Be able to pass a Criminal Background Check, provide and maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Background Check
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to influence people at all levels of the organization
- Classroom and behind the wheel facilitation skills
- Knowledge of all applicable provincial and federal safety rules and regulations
- Ability to positively support the driver needs and effectively instruct individuals in a manner that facilitates learning
- Intimate knowledge of project specific vehicles and equipment including client and service performance requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
