About the Opportunity

Valley Regional Hospital is seeking a urologist to join the current team of four. The urologist position is a fee-for-service 0.6 FTE within the allotted 3 FTE urology positions in Western Zone. The team will share call and all facility resources equally with the existing group. On-call requirements will be 1:5 for each urologist. Subspecialty urology training is not a requirement but could be an opportunity to provide more advanced care in some areas of urology, thus decreasing burden on Central Zone referrals. The group provides extensive satellite services throughout Western Zone. Opportunity to participate in the education of medical learners, training family medicine residents, LIC students and residents.


Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) opened its doors to patients in 1992. The hospital serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. Located in Kentville, VRH is a 137 inpatient bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care to approximately 80,000 residents.

Responsibilities

  • work as a full scope of practice urologist providing care to the patients within Western Zone
  • participate in call shifts
  • support Nova Scotia Health in advancing the delivery of urology care by liaising with the applicable staff within the zone and province
  • offer consultation support to Western Zone, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • be accountable to the patient population in Western Zone by providing clinics and occasional satellite clinics which requires travel within the zone
  • responsible to the Zone Surgery Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health

Qualifications

  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
