Our client is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join their team!

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller manages the financial reporting and accounting function, owning the processes to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of financial statements to stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to direct and manage the company's accounting team, including establishing best practices and procedures.

Each day will be different, yet a typical day will include:

  • Establishing internal controls and processes to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory policies and procedures
  • Managing accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, AP, AR and statutory reporting
  • Providing strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Preparing, analyzing and presenting monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each department, and reporting to financial institutions
  • Managing cash flow
  • Working with operations to improve current processes which impact operating efficiency; determine product pricing, costs and margins
  • Working with external auditors, audit committee and Board of Directors
  • Providing advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting
  • Coordinating the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements
  • Training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff

What you need to succeed:

  • Completion of a Certified Accounting Program
  • Progressive accounting experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills are essential
  • Ability to adapt, learn and implement new software
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
