Viterra is seeking a Rail Operations Analyst to join our Transportation and Logistics department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic team and assist with managing railcar programming and the operational execution of all rail services to ensure sales commitments are met while maximizing country and terminal assets.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages the weekly car allocation process within industry policy and regulations.
  • Manages the advance booking role and risk portfolio for all advance rail freight bookings.
  • Negotiates rail service requirements with railways ensuring maximum potential of railcar orders.
  • Coordinates the accessibility of country facilities with Railways to ensure transportation strategy matches current sales.
  • Develops and administers annual budgets for the Rail Operations area as well as assisting in the development and preparation of all yearly budgets within the Rail Logistics Group.
  • Prepares and maintains shipping statistics on volumes, car spot utilization and service levels of all train runs.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the grain industry and related transportation requirements and processes.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with outside agencies.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in grain transportation and inventory management
  • University degree in Agriculture, Commerce or Business Administration (or equivalent post-secondary education).
  • Computer competent, with demonstrated skill and ability in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications within a Windows based operating environment.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
