The Position:
The role of the Employment planner is to support newcomers in their settlement journey and enhance their employment readiness by providing bridging services to connect them with employability resources and work opportunities. The goal is to help newcomers identify their career goals and empower them to reach their settlement and career dreams in Canada.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Centered Services
- Serve clients both virtually and in person, in a strength based, culturally sensitive, and constructive manner in their settlement and employment process,
- Provide clients with one-on-one needs assessment, orientation to the Canadian workplace, updated information on local labor market and accreditation/licensing procedures, employment, education, and alternative career coaching, as well as a personalized, goal-oriented action plan,
- Develop, organize, and facilitate employment-related workshops and industry-specific information sessions to enhance the employability and competitiveness of job-seeking clients,
- Provide one-on-one employment coaching to clients, including the assessment of their employability level, followed by referrals and resources to support clients needs.
- Outreach to employers to promote the benefits of workforce diversification and solicit job interviews, internships/work placements, direct hire opportunities for clients and share ISC employment projects,
- Engage employers and other community stakeholders in collaborative activities that support the employment integration of newcomers, such as hiring events, career fairs, employer focus groups, professional networking events, sand success coaching,
- Follow up on client’s progress and integration into the community, and advocate for clients when required,
- Support ISC employment initiatives, programs, events, career fairs, and projects,
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Community Outreach
- Perform ongoing outreach activities to various ethno-cultural/community groups (e.g. Social media groups, community centers, places of worship etc.) to increase newcomer clientele;
- Work out of satellite offices within the community, to offer settlement services with a wider scope, as required by the Team Lead.
Administration and Reporting
- Responsible for accurately entering client information and service recordings into the Gateway System, including any follow-up services provided, in a timely manner,
- Complete group session forms, along with required evaluations and outcome measurements,
- Conduct orientation/workshop group activities and community outreach reports,
- Submit client success stories on a quarterly basis,
- Participate in strategic and organizational planning as required,
- Maintain accurate program/project data and client files,
- Contribute to funder and ISC reporting requirements,
- Any additional tasks as required by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree/Diploma in business, career development, human resources, social work, or related discipline,
- 5+ years of experience in related fields,
- Passion and experience in serving immigrants and refugees,
- Strong knowledge of the local labor market, job search strategies and employment resources,
- Strong networks within the community (e.g. community associations, places of worship, ethno-cultural organizations, service agencies etc.),
- Connections with employers from various fields and sectors,
- Experience using Salesforce an asset,
- Strong skills and solid experience in one-on-one coaching and group facilitation,
- Self-initiated and motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team setting,
- Excellence in written and spoken English,
- Fluency in other languages both written and oral would be considered a strong asset,
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and marketing skills,
- Available to work evenings and weekends on a need-to-need basis
- Willing to work from satellite offices on regular basis
