About Potash
BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.
The Principal Port Operations will work closely with internal and external project, functional, and operational readiness teams to provide technical/operational quality assurance of the BHP Potash port project. They will develop and execute the operational readiness requirements, provide oversight of the terminal commissioning and performance testing program, provide ongoing assurance of service requirements in operations, and be a key participate in stakeholder management for relevant external parties.
In this role, you will:
Complete quality assurance of the Westshore Terminals Ltd. (WTL) potash project throughout the design, execution, and operational readiness process
Review key design and operational documents as required by the BHP/WTL design-build contract
Work with the technology execution teams to ensure the integration of the BHP/WTL logistics managements systems as required by the contract
Liaise with the BHP rail car procurement team throughout the design and procurement process to ensure alignment and readiness for WTL to receive rail cars
Collaborate with the BHP integrated planning and logistics team to ensure all operational requirements are completed in advance of operations
Collaborate with the BHP vessel (freight) team to ensure readiness for the receipt and loading of vessels at WTL. Ensure all operational readiness requirements are completed to ensure a smooth transition into operations
Participate in the external stakeholder relationship management program for key port operations and logistics parties
Actively collaborate with all Jansen operational readiness teams during execution and operational teams during operations
Lead the assurance and quality management of WTL in meeting terminal service requirements during operation
Support implementation and monitors effectiveness of planning improvement initiatives with support from Integrated Planning and Analysis & Improvement teams during port operations
Vancouver, BC. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
Post-secondary degree in engineering
Demonstrated experience in port operations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead complex challenges with multiple global stakeholders
Action-orientated and able to drive complex problems to solutions, make trade-offs and implement effectively through stakeholders across the organization
Extensive experience in the application of workplace safety standards
Thorough understanding of risk management principles and their application
Relevant contract & contractor team management experience
Effective management of budgeting, cost control and continuous improvement
Strives to develop leadership in others through coaching, mentoring, and guiding
