The Role: Summer Program Leaders (8 Week Contract)
Trellis Society is seeking Summer Program Leaders to join our team this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This 8-week contract position will involve working 35 hours per week and providing quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain specific program and member statistics as well as perform other administrative duties as required.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills.
  • Assist children and youth to develop and practice problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills that support relationships and life-long learning and success.
  • Engage children and youth in active, meaningful interactions.
  • Encourage children and youth to try new things on their own, and support them to initiate, plan and follow through on their activities
  • Ensure the children and youth receive nutritious meals and snacks.
  • Promote community awareness to all children, youth and families.
  • Actively engage children, youth and families and develop positive relationships.
  • Be an effective, mature and appropriate role model to staff, volunteers and practicum students.
  • Complete all outcome measurement tools as required.
  • Attend staff meetings when possible and summer training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring to The Role:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and meet the Canadian Summer Job requirements
  • A degree or diploma or currently enrolled, or have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children, youth and families
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn database systems
  • Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid and Level C CPR training
  • Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Experience or in-depth understanding of Harm reduction and Trauma Informed Practice is considered an asset
Reporting Relationship:
This position directly reports to a Trellis Program Manager
