Compensation: $49,000/year

Hours: 40 hours/week

Organization Summary:

The Students’ Association is an autonomous, student-led organization that is dedicated to serving and representing students at NorQuest College. We represent and advocate for students, offer meaningful opportunities for students to get involved and provide a range of services to assist students when they need support.


Summary of Position:

Under the direction of the Service Manager, the Student Support Coordinator supports students by completing student intakes and making qualified referrals to internal and external services, assisting them in navigating college policy and procedures including acting as an attendant at meetings and hearings if requested and working with students to guide them in preparing self-guided action plans.

In addition, the Student Support Coordinator, plays a key role in developing new innovative student-centered programs and works on team projects aimed at serving and representing students.

As part of the dynamic SANQC team, the Student Support Coordinator will also have opportunities to contribute on internal and external committees that align with the purpose of SANQC and help transform the student experience.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Daily general administration including answering incoming phone calls, responding to general email inquiries received by the service team, addressing in-person inquiries and support service team in front line service delivery
  • Responsible for the coordination and delivery of the SANQC signature Student Support Program which includes conducting appointments with students to evaluate needs, determine resources and make qualified referrals to services as required
  • Responsible for administering the SANQC Protective Factor Survey, interpreting the results, and coordinating qualified referrals to internal/external partners
  • Responsible to work with key areas of the college, specifically the Office of Student Judicial Affairs to vet cases, gather documents for submissions and follow up regarding aftercare
  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings associated with student complaints, grade appeals or misconduct acting as an attendant to support students in their advocacy efforts
  • Build, vet and maintain the SANQC library and resource hub
  • Build and maintain community partnerships with the purpose of creating direct referral pathways to resources
  • Collect data through surveys and tracking usage of supports and services
  • Maintain student records, including detailed case management notes
  • Adhere to all procedures, safety protocols and terms and conditions of programs being delivered

Technology

  • Access student information through student database
  • Use Microsoft applications daily
  • Complete online opt-out, re-enrolments and add-ons for specific services as required.
  • Navigate online resources for the purpose of guiding students through online referral and application processes.

Event and Promotion

  • Represent SANQC on internal and external committees as required to promote SANQC services and supports
  • Serve on committees and boards that align with the purpose of SANQC as required
  • Coordinate lunch and learn sessions to provide students with access to vital information regarding student supports and services.
  • Promote SANQC services and supports as required through outreach activities like booths and classroom presentations.

Training and Development

  • Provide training to team members regarding key job roles to ensure cover-off support
  • Provide training and support to practicum students as required

Financial

  • Track expenses for any programs, services or events managed by the Student Support Coordinator

Committees/External Partners

  • Support the SANQC contracted student legal service and student wellness service and communicate with the benefit provider regarding student service and support.
  • Maintain interdisciplinary relationships within the college with key members of the service teams.
  • Primary contact and liaison with the Office of the Student Judicial Affairs.

Qualifications:

  • Understands and exhibits empathy and psychological safety
  • Excellent active listening skills, problem-solving and paraphrasing skills
  • Experience working in a student environment or not-for-profit organization
  • Fosters a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Person centered delivery - caring for students beyond their condition and tailoring service to support individual needs.
  • Administrative experience including excellent proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience conducting intakes, documenting, case management, and data management.

Education and Training:

  • 2-year diploma in a relevant field
  • 1-3 years' experience in social work or supporting role
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • First Aid, CPR-C
  • ASIST

Hours of Work:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday
      • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in-person 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
      • Wednesday in-person 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 pm.
      • Friday remote 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Occasional evening and weekends may be required
